Rent-to-own terms
Updated for this draft: 22 October 2026. Status: not approved by counsel. No office, team, address, or sales count is stated here.
Who does what
- Buyer. The person who asks to buy a listed name, make an offer, or start a rent-to-own plan.
- Seller. The person who controls a name and asks to list it, or the party that controls one of the catalog names.
- Marketplace. Sleekdomains. We show the names and take requests. We do not charge a card, hold the purchase money, or register the name.
- Registrar. The company where the name is registered. The registrar is the one that can move a name between accounts. Sleekdomains is not the registrar.
- Escrow provider. A separate company that can hold funds during a sale. Escrow.com is the provider we researched. It is not connected. This site does not offer escrow, insurance, or a transfer guarantee.
What the request is
Rent-to-own on this site is a request to pay the listed monthly amount for a term you choose. It is not labeled financing or a lease. The request does not charge a card and does not start a plan by itself. The buyer fee is 0%.
The prices that are defined
On a catalog name, the 24-month monthly price is the price on the name. For any other term, that 24-month total is divided by the number of months and rounded to the nearest dollar. The name page shows the payment count, the total, and the difference versus buy now before you send the request. No down payment is defined.
A seller listing offers rent-to-own only when the seller entered a 24-month monthly price. Otherwise the name page does not offer it.
Seller commission
The seller commission on rent-to-own is 5% of the Buy Now price, not of the payment total. It is deducted from the payments as they come in until that commission is satisfied. How each payment is split is pending legal review.
A seller whose first listing is submitted on or before January 31, 2027 (America/New_York) pays 0% on sales completed within 6 months of that listing's approval date, then 5%. A seller whose first listing is submitted after that date pays 5%. The 0% window does not start until that first listing is approved.
Pending legal review
These points are not written, and this draft does not invent them:
- default
- cancellation
- early payoff
- refunds
- down payment
- extra charges
- when ownership transfers
- how each incoming rent-to-own payment is split until the seller commission is satisfied
The same list is on the pricing page. The rent-to-own guide shows the formula with one catalog name and does not add terms. Until counsel writes them, do not treat a rent-to-own request as a promise that the name transfers on a particular payment.
